design and build custom furniture by commission. Working in both wood and metal, I frequently combine the two materials to create contemporary furniture which is refined in both proportion and detailing.

s with most designers, it is the sum of my experience which defines my creative work. Growing up in western Kansas I found few examples of where to go with my interest in furniture design. Upon graduation from high school I decided against going directly to college, electing instead to work with my hands. For five years I developed skills in all phases of residential construction, focusing on the more detail oriented finish carpentry and cabinetmaking. Evenings and weekends were spent learning to build furniture.

was greatly influenced by the writing of Swedish cabinetmaker, James Krenov as well as a few hands-on workshops with English designer/craftsman, Ian Kirby. Ian helped me understand that an education in design would be a great benefit in my development as a furnituremaker. I took his advice to heart and entered Kansas State University, College of Architecture and Design, and earned a Bachelors of Interior Architecture in 1988.

y love of windsurfing brought me to Portland, Oregon with its close proximity to the Columbia River Gorge. I was employed as an Interior Designer for ten years and gained a wealth of experience in client contact, presentations, construction documents, and the application of the design fundamentals that I learned at Kansas State. While working on design projects that ranged from small residences to large corporate headquarters, I continued to design and build furniture and developed additional skills in metalworking and welding. I have been designing and building furniture full-time since 1998.
